Tech know-it-all insider KeplerL2 has claimed in post on NeoGAF that the upcoming PS6 will not exclusively use RDNA 5 GPU from AMD.

The hardware tipster stated that the PS5 internal architecture is a hybrid of RDNA1 and ray-tracing, before adding that “PS6 isn’t full RDNA 5 either.” In addition, he recently claimed that the next-generation PlayStation console, which Sony has yet to officially announce despite constant rumours trickling in, could have up to 30GB of GDDR7 memory. Meanwhile, the long-rumoured handheld companion could feature up to 24GB of LPDDR5X memory.

The PS6 is being powered by a new collaboration between Sony and AMD known as Project Amethyst. Last year, Mark Cerny and Jack Huynh revealed in an interview regarding the partnership that it will include next-generation AMD rendering tech, with Cerny stating he’s “really excited about bringing them to a future console in a few years time.”

Meanwhile, hardware YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead described the PS5’s Low Power Mode as a “Trojan Horse” to prepare for support for the PS6 handheld. He also previously stated that Sony is likely to begin manufacturing for its next-generation console efforts in mid-2027, with a release coming later that year or early 2028.

Last month, David Gibson, a senior analyst with MST Financial, stated in a report that Sony’s new console is likely to be released later than expected, as the format holder expects the PS5 lifecycle to be extended.
