A report on Bloomberg has claimed the as-yet unannounced PS6 could see its planned release window pushed to 2028/2029.

That’s according people familiar with the hardware manufacturer’s plans, with the report stating that it could result in a “major upset” to a strategy designed to sustain user engagement in the bridge between hardware generations.

Interesting this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a possible internal delay for the PS6. Last month, a senior analyst with MST Financial claimed that the new system is likely to see the light of day much later than expected, as Sony anticipates the PS5 lifecycle to be extended.

There’s been a lot of chatter about the PS6 over the past year or so. Just earlier today, we reported that hardware insider KeplerL2 stated that Sony’s next-generation system will not utilise full AMD RDNA 6 GPU architecture, suggesting a customised approach to its innards. Sony itself hasn’t announced anything about the PS6 yet, but it has been heavily rumoured the new system will arrive alongside handheld device, which will be able to play PS5 titles.

Back in August 2025, YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead claimed that the PS6 handheld system will boast more technical prowess than the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Ally X, and will allow for backwards compatibility with PS4 and PS5 games. It will also reportedly feature a MicroSD slot, M.2 SSD Haptic Vibration, Dual Mics, and a Touchscreen.

Moore’s Law Is Dead also described the PS5’s Low Power Mode as a “Trojan Horse” to prepare for support for the PS6 handheld.
